Harm Reduction
According to the National Harm Reduction Coalition, harm reduction is a set of practical strategies and ideas aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with drug use. Harm reduction incorporates a spectrum of strategies that includes safer use, managed use, abstinence, meeting people who use drugs “where they’re at,” and addressing conditions of use along with the use itself.
Naloxone (brand-name Narcan) is an opioid overdose drug available to everyone in the county through a standing order with Hope Rising. It is completely harmless in someone not experiencing an overdose, and not addictive itself. Medically-Assisted Treatment (or MAT) services are low-threshold medical and behavioral health services that help those with substance and/or opioid use disorder (SUD/OUD) get back on their feet."

Hope Rising Lake County is committed to working towards a future where health outcomes are not determined by social factors but by access to high-quality care and resources. Partnering with community members, organizations, and public health agencies, we are working to identify and address the root causes of health inequities.
We will work to identify and reduce systemic barriers that prevent individuals from accessing the care and resources they need to be healthy. Promoting health equity will be measured by the degree to which all community members can access the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
